Because I am currently studying air hujan dan air limpasan for my upcoming midterm exam, I have some thoughts regarding Matari and Brya Aima. This will be a bit of a ramble tho and I ain’t gonna edit it lol. So get ready for the ride.
So, I am thinking that Matari is based on Jakarta, and it has problems with flooding (just like other metropolis in the world). While Brya Aima is such a chaos of a city that somehow has green infrastructure but it was mostly because there is this urban legend that’s not actually a legend because it actually exists that will eat people who do a bit of wrong things with their vehicles.
I am thinking a bit that people in Matari is just used to flooding at this point. Not that they enjoy it, but it’s kinda an annual occurrence at this point.
The reason why Matari is so prone to flooding is most likely because it’s such a built city. There is barely any place that have pores? Idk what is it called… uhhhh zona resapan?
Compared to Brya Aima, that barely has any automotive (because of the urban legend), they are not going to be too much of a car oriented city, but they kinda already has asphalt (which was how the urban legend thing came anyway). But there again, Brya Aima has a lot of gutter.
Anyway. Talking about gutter, let’s talk about sistem penanganan air buangan in each city.
In my sarpras class on 13/10, my dosen said that there are two types of sistem penanganan air buangan: sistem terpisah and sistem gabungan. Basically, how it works was that
In sistem terpisah, the sanitary sewer (that’s basically filled with poop and pee) has its own tunnel that will lead to treatment plant while rainwater or storm… something something (I forgot what it was called) will go to the storm sewer. In this system since they are being separated, rainwater (or the one on the ground) will be sent right to water body without any treatment while sanitary sewer will go to treatment before being sent to waterbody. This system is used when there were not a lot of people living there so they can make big pipes underground.
While sistem gabungan basically mix everything, so every water go to treatment plant. Cities like NYC use this system. The problem with sistem gabungan tho, you’d need a bigger place to put your treatment plant because… there are a lot of water that’s going there.
ANYWAY, Indonesia use separate system because we can’t determine how much water will come and fill the treatment plant if we combine everything. It’s different during rain season and different during dry season. SO.
I think Matari and Brya Aima will both use sistem terpisah.
Okay, we’ll talk about penanganan air hujan now. We are going to talk about how they use paradigma baru, which is more sustainable and basically intended to use the air hujan/air limpasan for everyday use or something like that. Different from paradigma lama that’s basically just “Heyyyy let’s get rid of these water quickly”
Paradigma baru that I think each city will use are:
BRYA AIMA
- Ecodrainage: Detention Ponds but no retention ponds. I don’t think they care enough to make retention ponds
- Ecodrainage: Infiltration system and sumur resapan (idk the difference tbh). Because why not.
- Green Infrastructure: Planter Boxes → I think it’s just the new mayor really liking green things
- Green Infrastructure: Bioswale → I think it’s just the new mayor really liking green things
- Green Infrastructure: Green Streets and Alleys → I think it’s just the new mayor really liking green things
- Green Infrastructure: Green Parking except there’s no parking ig → I think it’s just the new mayor really liking green things
- Green Infrastructure: Rain Garden → I think it’s just the new mayor really liking green things… it’s basically forced for the citizens to have this in their houses
MATARI
- Ecodrainage: I don’t think they’d want to do ecodrainage
- Green Infrastructure: Planter Boxes→ can be used in lahan terbatas, and because pretty
- Green Infrastructure: Green Roofs→ can be used in lahan terbatas
- Green Infrastructure: Rain Garden→ can be used in lahan terbatas
I don’t think they will do bioswale because… actually for no reason. They just doesn’t seem like they’d want to do that
I feel like urban tree canopy is too much of an investment. Matari doesn’t seem to have a lot of space left to make it, and Brya Aima doesn’t seem to care
